about us

the bread club members’ union is an organization formed by members of the bread club in september of 2023 anno domini. our stated mission and mandate is

to represent, fairly but ruthlessly, the members of the bread club and their interests. we are founded on the principles of righteousness, member-centrism, and calculated mischief. to this end, we must utilize every bureaucratic avenue available to us and be prepared to deploy our collective bargaining power for the greater good of humanity.

our framework

we operate through a system of grievances, motions, public shaming, and strikes with frequent meetings to discuss our direction and potential new issues.

all movements will begin in the form of a grievance, to be added by members to the biweekly meeting agenda. in our biweekly meetings, union members will discuss the grievance, its severity, and potential implications for the bread club leader. we will aim to formalize a motion for every grievance, should we deem them severe enough (pretty much always).

each grievance will go through several stages of discussion until it is ready to be presented as a motion to the bread club leader in a document known as a notice of grievance. at this point, the union shall be prepared to engage in negotiations with the bread club leader until we either reach resolution (documented in a memorandum of understanding), or necessitate escalation.

escalation will take place in several levels, stepping up if each level is unsuccessful in resolving the conflict.

level 0. preliminary discussion; we should strive to resolve most grievances in this level. channels and modes of communication are yet to be worked out.

level 1. formal mediation; this is a more structured form of negotiation which will be facilitated by a neutral third-party mediator. who this mediator is or the process through which they are selected is yet to be determined.

level 2. crisis arbitration; if negotiations stall to this point, we will not hesitate to deploy various tactics at our disposal, including public shaming and strikes.

in addition to grievance motions, the union will also handle member benefits and public outreach. however these topics are still in early development.
